Business Highlight- Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill
One of the biggest reasons we wanted to talk about the good things in our neighborhood was to highlight the local businesses that pours into our community. We wanted to talk about a business you may have already known or heard about, but maybe did not see behind the scenes or know about the good that they pour back into our neighborhood. One of the first businesses that came to mind was Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill.
You have probably heard about them, about their authentic Mexican food, you may have even seen some posts that have gone viral. In a world where the future is so uncertain and people are not always looking for the betterment of others, kindness can go a long way. That is why our neighborhood needs businesses like Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill. The owner, Megan Ramirez, has proved that kindness absolutely matters, and her success in the restaurant world has paired beautifully with the heart she has for other people.
Monterrey’s Cuisine: A Treat for All!
Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill works to provide fresh and quality ingredients in their kitchen daily to provide their customers with delicious fresh food. There is such a variety of delicious dishes and combinations, up to 130 different options on their menu! It would be impossible to name them all, but with that many options you KNOW they will have your favorite.
From familiar Americanized favorites such as nachos, fajitas, tortilla soup, and chimichangas, to truly full authentic meals like chiles rellenos, enchiladas, tacos and carne asada, it is no wonder why Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill has been one of Michiana’s favorite Mexican restaurants for several years. Everything is always fresh, delicious, and filling with an inviting and happy atmosphere. On top of that, Monterrey has a full drink menu with several specialty margaritas and other cocktails, draft and bottled beer, and even wine! They even have a full catering menu, all your favorites can even be delivered to your events!
Is your mouth watering yet? Stomach rumbling? Mexican food is the third most popular food in the United States, and even if it isn’t completely your cup of tea, its hard to turn down some chips and salsa!
Meet the Owner: Momma’s got your back!
Megan Ramirez might be one of the busiest women in Michiana. She is a mom of two adorable boys (Lucas & Liam) who are active in school, and she owns and operates a wildly successful and beloved restaurant, Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill. On top of that, she always has time helping others in the community, both through her business or on her own. She is, without a doubt, most passionate about helping others and connecting with the people who come through her door. Below is an amazing example!
This post went viral, and had several people in the community (including myself, if I am being honest) wiping away tears. It’s an amazing reminder that community and kindness goes a long way, and while we hope to never find ourselves in the position of this young woman, love rather than judgement should always win.
Megan is also an incredible mom. Her and her boys love the Chicago Cubs and she loves spoiling her kids with special events in the community, as well as traveling around the world! Megan’s entire face will light up whenever her kids are mentioned, and she never misses a chance to brag about how special they are to her. She says, “The boys love the restaurant and being at the restaurant. They are my best little helpers and super great little guys.”
Monterrey in Our Community
Monterrey Cares:
If you have ever been to Monterrey, you may have had the chance to talk to Megan herself. One of their favorite parts of the day is talking to, meeting, and getting to know their customers. They are always looking for ways to help the community with and corporate, school and non-profit donation events. They have raised money for well-known organizations such as LOGAN center and Corvilla, as well as brought some awareness to ones not everyone may be aware of such as Rescue. Release. Repeat. (a charity for helping save wild and domesticated animals).
Kindness Goes Viral:
The past several years has brought record breaking highs and lows for Michiana temperature, and several people always voice concern for those who may not have shelter during these times. Megan and her staff at Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill have taken a step beyond and offered a safe space for those who need it most during those times.
In 2024, a local family was looking for a space to host their child’s birthday party, but soon realized they could not afford one. Megan made a simple quick post, announcing a “pay what you can” rate, offering families in need the space to host their child’s birthday events in their party space upstairs (affectionately called “The Mont”) with complimentary chips, salsa, soft drinks, and a cake that Megan herself will personally cover.
How to Support
Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill is located in Mishawaka off McKinley and is open Sunday through Wednesday from 10am – 9pm, and Thursday through Saturday from 10am – 10pm. If you are looking for delicious and fresh Mexican food, a place to gather with friends and family to eat, or food to bring to your party, I cannot suggest them highly enough. Businesses with hearts like this can be rare, and Monterrey Mexican Bar & Grill is most deserving of our support.
